Temperate Rainforest
A very wet and windy day, but I managed to convince the Bear to accompany me for a nosey at all the lovely lichens and bryophytes adorning the oak and hazel in the wood next to Boat House Bay. She was on top form and keen to understand how they could grow without soil and wanted to know where the roots were. We found loads of hazelnuts too, and compared soggy leaves - hazel, oak, birch and aspen. I briefly grumbled about the rhododendron, which I do at every opportunity, but she humoured me. The Bear wanted to continue up to visit Monster Midge, but withered a bit when we had to face into the weather to return. She's soon bounced back again once we were home and removed our soggy layers.
