Bacalhau

Today was my final full day in Lisbon, for now. The longing to return and spend the rest of my days just walking the hilly streets, is strong.

I walked around the Penha da França area and then spent the day with my friend Nuno who introduced me to the famous flea market spilling all over the streets close to the Panteão (Pantheon). He later cooked up the traditional Portuguese dish of Bacalhau à Brás, which consists of shreds of salted cod, onions, and thinly chopped fried potatoes, bound with eggs. The dish is said to have originated in Bairro Alto, one of Lisbon’s oldest areas, and scene of many of my wanders.
