Attention All Shipping
We made the most of the sunshine today with a walk to Goodrington and the Cantina, for lunch outside. The Whooper Swan sighted at Gooodrington did not materialise. We rounded off the day with a visit to Brixham Theatre. Charlie Connelly presented his one man show ‘Attention All Shipping’.
- an amusing history of the shipping forecast which began 100 years ago, thanks to Admiral Fitzroy. It was sold out. Our tribe, - the over seventies - were there mob handed.
The late shipping forecast of the day is broadcast at 00.48. We’ d stayed up to watch M O T D, so instead of a bedtime story we asked Alexa to play The Shipping Forecast. As it happens it was pretty eventful, lots of cyclonic, and gale force, and violent.
Thankful to be snug and warm and safe, with the rain rattling the windows. Glad we weren’t in Rockall or North Utshire.
We enjoyed the poetry of the words. I must look up poems about the forecast by Carol Ann Duffy ( Prayer ) and Seamus Heaney, which Charlie mentioned, and Alan Bennett reading the forecast, -the epitome of a middle class experience.
