Blackburn
Day of photographic competitions today. We spent most of the day in Blackburn at the PAGB Inter Club Print Championships. We had a good day out, but the club doesn't do the right kind of photography that does well at this level, so we weren't troubling the leaders, coming well down the results.
After a quick Burger King dinner we drove through to Huddersfield for the first round of the Yorkshire Inter club competition. We did better in this, coming fourth out of eleven, and then we drove home arriving just after 10.30pm.
All in all, a day of contrasts. We're not sure we got much out of the day at Blackburn - it's the same kind of work that keeps winning, and anything outside that pattern doesn't do well. The speed of judging also meant we didn't get to see the images for very long. The evening was more constructive - a judge that commented about what they were seeing and suggested possible improvements - but the standard of photography on offer was lower on average. One to ponder - how to do we improve our photography, but what even is "better" when it comes to art?
