Barbican reflections
We are leaving Plymouth today but we decided to catch a ferry to the Barbican area first. It was a lovely short trip and the weather was bright and sunny. We wandered around the old port area taking in the historic features. My eye was caught by these colourful reflections of a fishing vessel moored in the port. We explored the back streets here including the Plymouth Gin factory before walking back to the Hoe with its lighthouse and extensive views over Plymouth Sound. It was then further walking back to the King William Yard where we had a bagel and then drove to our next destination Tavistock.
The weather was still lovely and sunny so quickly left our bags at the hotel and then walked into the centre. We were heading to the Pannier Market which was open today. It's an amazing market full of so many interesting things. The market was granted a Royal Charter by Henry 1 in 1105 and one has been running ever since. We continued our exploration of the town with its remains of the medieval Abbey and numerous other historic buildings and many independent shops.
Later that evening we all enjoyed a meal in a restaurant close to the river. Another lovely day, it certainly feels like we have been away longer than 3 days.
