Went to a lovely friendly riding club show at Pickering today. The turnout was very low so glad we made the effort to support. The weather was awful! Eva won the 50cm but when she went in to do the same course at 60cm he just put the brakes on and refused to go then refused the first fence twice. Eva got so upset bless her. I went in to send him over the first fence and then he flew round. I think he just thought he'd done it once perfectly, why are you asking me to do it again for the sake of 10cm?
The mini ring went up to 60cm then the maxi started with a 60cm clear round with competitive classes starting at 70cm. Eva has never ridden in the big ring, it's massive and she was really nervous. They were big wide fences and it was a long course. I wasn't hopeful that he would cooperate after the mini ring 60 but he went in and did a beautiful round - couple of genuine refusals when I think he just panicked at the look of the fences as he flew them when she represented him but was so proud of them both as they had a lovely rhythm going round and just looked brilliant. Eva was super happy so it was the right thing to do to finish on a high. She's come so far as there is no way she would have been brave enough to go in that massive arena at the start of summer.
