Evoking Beauty
The yucca buds are now flowers. Seen from our front door. Another beautiful day, but again, went outside first thing, then didn't use camera again.
But did go outside again. Spent the morning pruning trees; bit worried I cut too much off the grapefruit tree, trying to expose all the grapefruit to the sun.
Been thinking about the film we saw on Saturday, "We Live in Time", and one thing I loved about it was the way the Garfield character loves the woman, really gives himself to her. People talk about how the Bible tells women to submit, but how about the instructions to the husbands?
Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They’re really doing themselves a favor—since they’re already “one” in marriage.
No one abuses his own body, does he? No, he feeds and pampers it. That’s how Christ treats us, the church, since we are part of his body. And this is why a man leaves father and mother and cherishes his wife. (Ephesians 5:25-29)
In my experience, very, very few men are mature enough and unselfish enough to love like this, but this film shows what it could be like.
Gratefuls:
- yet another gorgeous day, ending with golden light on walls and stones as the sun was setting
- first English conversation class with Rosa and Adelaide going well
- Mike getting three more ceiling panels up
Oh, and Netty arriving for a few days.
