I bought an old sewing machine today as we don't have one and it would be useful sometimes. It's a treadle one but I now need to buy a drive belt as the old one is beyond repair. This model was clearly very popular in its day and was manufactured in various places. The German factory was moved to Russia after the war. The new one was reinstated a few years later. There were documents in the drawers, including the purchase and payment slips. It was clearly initially purchased by Mr Rudinger in 1938. He last had it serviced in 1970, so that tells a tale. I have learnt how to thread it but I'll have to order the belt now. Perhaps I'll be able to turn my own trousers up to length eventually?
