I heard a commotion at the front door about 8am and had a quick look out of the window. There were three grounds work vehicles and a collection of suitably dressed blokes. We were expecting someone to tackle the drainage problems in the back garden and this was the team.
B was in the shower, I put on my dressing gown and slippers and headed down stairs. When I opened the curtains at the French windows in the kitchen they were already surveying back garden.
I made sure that they knew what they were there to do and my version of what the problem is. They were very surprised when they saw the latest pictures of floods!!!
They were a super bunch of blokes, very polite and chatty and respectful. We got on well. By lunchtime they knew a bit about us, told us loads about them and how the job should have been done in the first place, to avoid the problems we are experiencing.
I provided tea and coffee and by the end of the session had put a tray of requirements on the garden table with a kettle of boiling hot water and a container of chocolate biscuits. They were instructed to shout when they needed more. They were well catered for and got what they needed.
I went to collect Olive after lunch and dropped her off at home before going to the U3A craft group meeting. R is running a course for a group of MBA students somewhere south of London and won't be back until Friday. We are providing day care for Olive.
When I got home the drainage channel and whatever was needed under ground had been laid, with some new turf on top. They had made a good job of cleaning up the mess that had been made. It was an interesting experience.
