Texas Life

Tourista

A touristy photo of my brother-in-law along the Chisholm Trail in Round Rock, Texas. The Chisholm Trail built upon an Indian trail that originally ran from what is now Austin to what is now Fort Worth via what is now Waco. Once the trail began being used for cattle drives, it ran from the Rio Grande River along the Mexican border to Abilene, Kansas, the railhead for shipping cattle back east. Eventually, the trail extended up to Wichita, Kansas. The trail was named for Jesse Chisholm, who operated several trading posts in the Oklahoma Territory. Chisholm died before ever running any cattle along the trail.

This particular spot is next to Brushy Creek, very near the Round Rock that gives our town it's name. The town was once called Brushy Creek, a name I find much more appealing.
