I Have Faith in a Seed (Monarch Butterfly Edition)

"Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders." - Henry David Thoreau.*

Now that we were finally home for a day, it was time for some yard work. I tidied up the milkweed patch. The stalks are dry and rotted and they pulled out easily. I saved the seed pods and I think I'll scatter them in the backyard. I hope they grow us some BUTTERFLIES! Yes, I, too, have faith in a seed!

Our soundtrack song: Alice DiMicele, Seeds.

P.S. If you live in monarch caterpillar stomping grounds, please plant some MILKWEED!

*A little Thoreau sidebar: On October 22, 1837, at the suggestion of his new friend Ralph Waldo Emerson, 20-year-old Henry David Thoreau began keeping a journal. By the end of his life, his journal was 47 volumes, containing nearly 2.5 million words.
