Nominative Determinism

The map showed an island that, with a certain charitable latitude, might be said to resemble a dog. But the most willing eye would find it hard to transform its outline into that of a rabbit. And yet it was as Coney Island that the Royal Navy, moving in its usual mysterious way, chose to record its new discovery. There were, of course, no rabbits on the island at the time of its naming, but when a second surveying expedition visited, some years later, they found a thriving colony. Perhaps the rabbits, seeing the island on the recent Admiralty charts, had been persuaded to emigrate?
