Tuesday: Farewell
I was in the office for just a few hours to tidy up some last things, put my out of office on etc. Other than that, it was a final pack and sort before some of the team came over for a few beers and tacos.
It was bitter-sweet - there were some lovely heartfelt speeches and tears (no tears from us, I should add, although I did have a lump in my throat when my assistant, Ashanti, invoked the song ‘To Sir With Love’).
We then dropped off the car to Ian who has bought it from us and headed to ‘Wings and Feathers’ for a final evening with N&S. Ian came too and very generously footed the drinks bill.
And that’s now it. We’ve met some lovely people whom we will continue to care deeply about, and have had some wonderful experiences. But it’s been the hardest posting I’ve done and that’s based on encountering first two, and then a third, of the most toxic people I’ve come across in my career. There’s a lot I haven’t been able to say here but their agenda has been quite something and has been hard to handle.
One of them is in this picture which made my farewell speech a bit awkward (fifth from the left, with her arm in the air, if you’re interested).
On a much more positive note, thank you so much for all the well wishes yesterday. And now on to new adventures.
