Before and After

Our chairs are in various states of disrepair.. these two have the original IKEA covers which have become threadbare over the years. So much so that the calico underneath had also gone through and so the sponge inside was poking out of the holes.. Time for an emergency repair.  A few years ago I had bought some material from IKEA which I thought at the time was the same but it isn't quite. Also it was only sufficient to repair the other 4 chairs which I did about 3 years ago. So with the scraps I had left and some calico I bought to use for dye experiments i have repaired the inside and made a new front for these two remaining chairs.  That should give me a few more years before I need to change all of them once again!  This time I will be sure to buy enough fabric to get all 6 recovered.  Since this photo was taken I have done both and put them into the wash.. so hopefully the colour difference will not be so huge!!
A successful make do and mend although I have an idea these would be fun to replace with a bright colour to make them look like a Pantone type picture!!  How's about a flash of orange at the front or teal blue!  Could be fun!
