The one that got away

We had at least six skeins of geese flying overhead this morning.  Despite craning my neck for a view I only heard the first group of three, but straight afterwards I made sure I had my camera to hand.  And sure enough, within the hour three more skeins flew over, all heading more or less west.  Two of them were a little bit disorganised, but the last was in tight formation with just one goose cadet rebelling against authority.

It was nice to look in on my neighbour's cats.  The scaredy cat one sniffed my hand but then jumped away, while the friendly one was purring and rubbing around me within moments.  I also have to look after some hens, and I don't really know how hens work – except to say that I had a crash course last week, and I do have some instructions.  The braver of the two was a bit bitey when I tried to refill its tube of hen food though.  I was going to describe it as a gallus wee thing but apparently I would be speaking in more than mere metaphor: they are literally Gallus gallus domesticus.  It's only for one more day though and then my neighbour can have them back.
