Busy
Today I got up promptly, as I had to walk Django before getting into work for 10:00. There I had a 2-hour meeting with PhD student J, first discussing the latest turn in the saga of the paper that a collaborator is failing to help us with. Then we went through their thesis from the point at which I'd stopped commenting last week. It's just as thorough as the first two chapters, and I felt a little guilty that I'd not encourage them to turn more into papers.
That meeting took me to lunch in the common room with developer F, and then I had a bit of time to work before a group of three visiting academics arrived to seek my advice. They are interested in very much more mathematical problems than I normally solve, but it was interesting to discuss how a familiar technique works in a different context.
PhD student Y arrived for a meeting and, after she left, my Year 4 student emailed me to say that he was free to a chat - he'd had good reason not to be available at the arranged time - so, after 17:00, developer F and I started helping him to use HiGHS on his Mac. We made some progress, but ended up having to refer him to И.
It's great interacting with young people, but today was a bit of an overdose: tomorrow should be more peaceful!
