A change of scene
All right - the day began as a Thursday ought to in my horribly routine existence: a quick dangle out of the window to capture the dramatic sunrise, followed by a much slower progress round Morrison's pushing a trolley with a wonky wheel which meant the whole thing had left-leaning tendencies. Said trolley ended up full of an insane amount of groceries for two people - I don't know how we get through it all - and progress was once again rendered more difficult by Morrison's insane new system of putting great pallets of stuff on the floor in the aisles while the staff refill the shelves. I think they've laid off most of the night staff. Both these parts of my pre-breakfast routine have been given a collage each in the extras, just because they're there.
Breakfast and coffee over, I had an hour in which to work on a piece we're singing on Saturday and which I have never previously sung. I was singing along with Voces 8 on YouTube, and as it ended I was twice urged to listen to this which was spookily prescient, in that the recording was made in Cumbrae , where we're singing on Saturday, about 34 years ago. I got so involved in the singing and then in a phone call from blipper Elspeth that we then had to scamper to catch the ferry over to Inverclyde Royal again, so that I could be told what was up with my eye and what to do now. (Not going to try any more meds until after Saturday: some of the music copies are very small and hand-written and ancient, so I need to be able to see as well as I can!)
That over, we drove along to Port Glasgow, had a strangely delicious bacon bap for a belated lunch in Costa, and went into Marks and Spencer Food Hall for some things I can't get here - lemon-infused olive oil, ready prepared spice mixes for speedy dinners, sheep's milk cheese - and try on a pair of warm jeggings which I decided against as being more suited to a Pilates class than anything else (I don't let anyone see me in the leggings I wear to that!) We met a friend from church and shared a few shreds of gossip and foody ideas, then left before we spent any more.
Once home I had the culinary thrill of filleting the second of the sea bream we bought a few weeks back (I did better this time, and without having to consult the video again!) and had it with a squash risotto and steamed pak choi. It was rather splendid (no false modesty here!) And that was me - floored again.
My main photo is of the view from the stairs down into the Next store in which Costa is situated - I rather like the glass wall and the view of Port Glasgow shopping mall which is so different from what I'm usually looking at. But it'd kill me, living that life all the time ...
