Grape harvest

The area of Michigan we're exploring has several wineries,  and the fields of grapevines are truly stunning.

This morning field after field was glowing in the autumn sunshine.  This is the latest in the season that we've visited,  and the vines were a bright yellow with huge clusters of grapes.

We watched this machine as it worked it's way down the row of vines, gently shaking the ripe grapes and collecting them.  It's more efficient than handpicking,  but it does bruise the grapes.  Guess you can't have it both ways.

A beautiful day anyway.
