FOGGY YORKSHIRE

Had a very rough night with the coughing but I did doze so that was something.

We sorted everything out and left the cottage in great order, took the keys to the office and were on the road by 9.00 am.

It was SOOOOOOO FOGGY.   Google maps took us on an adventure today.  I  had 3 ideas of the route home, avoiding York and Harrogate.  She did none of those.  We visited places called Little Habton, Amotherby, Barton-le-Street, Slingsby Coulton and Yearsley.  Before we joined the A19 and the A168 and A1(M) to get to Leyburn.

This would have been beautiful - good roads, two width and soooo pretty from what we could see, some sort of huge estate too with a lake and a bridge. There would have been so many lovely golden shots but we couldn't see much at all.

Aaah well it was still a pleasant, if tiring jouney.  We got to Leyburn and I remembered from years ago they have a small station there for local diesel trains just going a few stops, but it had a great cafe and shop.

We pulled up - it's all closed now - you can still get onto the platform and use the trains but the cafe and shop all gone - so sad.  So we went into Leyburn - IT WAS MARKET DAY.  We skirted around 2 or 3 times, couldn't get parked.  Then miraculously as we were about to give up appeared a parking space right by a coffee shop and opposite the market.  You could only stay for 30 minutes, but that's all we needed.

It turned out the cafe was excellent - extremely busy being market day but really good.

After refreshing ourselves we then drove through Wensleydale - so little traffic it was fabulous, but still very foggy and in some places getting foggier.

We got through Hawes with no problem and then arrived at the Ribblehead Viaduct (as per photo).  Fog lifting but leaving low cloud.

We then got to Ingleton and joined the A65 and stopped at The Plough in Lupton (near the fabulously named hamlets of Cow Brow and Nook).  I've passed this place so many times but never stopped before.  It is excellent. We just had a fairly light lunch, which was very good
