Late Bee

This morning  we participated in a work session with the Hampshire Hedge Project.  The only other event we had attended was back in March when  we helped plant the final hedging of the season. That day, we planted the  whips in driving rain, sliding around  in deep mud. Luckily today, the same site, a local county -owned farm, looked much more inviting. It was dry, sunny and warm while  we carried out our task to assess the condition of the  hedgerow plants which  had been planted last winter. Our small team of volunteers managed to assess 2200 plants, carefully weeding around them as we went.We found  only 112 dead plants; a loss  rate of 5.09% ,which is very good apparently.
There were  also some late insects about including a brimstone  butterfly and this bee.
