There Must Be Magic

The Current Reading List

I had just finished the book I'd been reading, and it was time to pick out another book or two. So I went back to the stacks of books I brought home from the library in Bellefonte, laid them out neatly on the bed, and invited Tiny Tiger, the Moose, and the Anteater to help me make my selections!

The Anteater got distracted, looking for ants (and not finding any). But Tiny Tiger and the Moose were a big help, as you can see. The collection includes a few authors who are among my favorites - Iris Johansen, John Sandford, Kay Hooper, James Patterson, Clive Cussler's Sam and Remi Fargo tales, and of course, J.D. Robb's In Death series. There are also a bunch of newer books I thought I'd try. (Who are some of YOUR favorite authors? Leave a comment!)

I just finished the latest three by C.J. Box, in his Joe Pickett series - Shadows Reel, Storm Watch, and Three-Inch Teeth - which my husband and I both enjoy. They were all barn-burners! So far this year, I've read 52 books (yes, I keep a running spreadsheet).

When I was a tiny child, I was read to by family members. There was a first book that they read to me so often, and they thought *I* could read long before I could, because I had memorized the words and could recite them along with the pictures! "My blue kite flies. My purple pinwheel spins." I also remember with great affection the tale of Davy Deer's New Red Scarf. :-)

I have been a voracious reader since I was a child at home - in summertime, I sometimes read a book a day. My mother knew a book was an easy way to keep me entertained and out of trouble, so during the school year, she'd buy Scholastic books at regular intervals, when the brochures came around, and tuck them away for summertime.

So which two did I pick as my next books? The McConaughey book, Greenlights (I've heard he is a hysterical storyteller). And Iris Johansen's On the Hunt, a thriller. Okay, sorry, gotta go! Time to settle in and get reading! :-)

My soundtrack song is a Gordon Lightfoot favorite, and this is a gorgeous cover by Diana Krall and Sarah McLachlan: If You Could Read My Mind.
