The Heron Pond

Popped down to the pond today, which sometimes has a heron in residence, and sometimes not. Driving past it yesterday morning, I'd noticed it has interesting light on it as the sun rises.

After I'd packed up, and was heading up the hill, I stopped to watch a large crow who seemed to be on a mission. A few seconds later, I spotted a commotion down at the pond. The crow was attacking a recently arrived heron, who gave him a parting clout, and sailed off gracefully along the field and skywards. I didn't get that shot, as I decided just to observe, and enjoy.
