Bored already and lots to rant about?!
We've been back in Edinburgh for two days and my human is bored already?!!! We arrived back at our Edinburgh home on Friday evening and yesterday we had a lovely day. I had a 'first thing in the morning' walk and then went for a big long walk up Blackford Hill and through the Hermitage. In the afternoon Ann met her friends for lunch and then they all came back here for more drinkies so that I didn't have to stay home alone for too long.
Today after a lovely walk in one of my favourite places, (Braidburn Valley Park), Ann went off to one of the vaccination centres hoping to get her shingles vaccine. Long story short.................... she was 65 in March and because we've been in St Ives for the last 6 months, (& are still registered with the doctor here) has missed out on getting the vaccine for shingles & pneumococcal. Sooooo................. last week she phoned the 'NHS Lothian Vaccination Enquiries Line' to reschedule and got an automated message saying that they weren't making anymore appointments but to go to any of the 'walk in centres'. And then they listed all the centres and the times that they were open. She went to the vaccination centre at the Waverley Mall this morning and after waiting in a queue for 20 mins was told that the vaccination centres weren't doing the shingles or pneumococcal vaccines anymore because they were very busy with flu/covid vaccines and the message on the enquiries line was probably an old one. Great? And no; she couldn't have her flu/covid vaccine (even though she'd waited 20 mins in a queue for no reason) because it's appointment only and her appointment is for next Monday. Great?!
She had a mooch around town, but it was very busy and it was also very cold so she came home, jumped in the car and went off to Tesco cos she had no food in the house and I had no treats. OMG?! That just made her even more grumpy. Tesco's is trying to refurbish their whole store while remaining open. Everything has been moved around. There were aisles that were empty and staff were dismantling the shelves, nothing was where it should be and everyone was asking the staff for help. What a complete shambles!!! Ann's friend had actually told her this yesterday, but Ann being Ann had just thought, 'well it can't be that bad'. It was!!! She certainly won't be going back there in a hurry.
This afternoon we walked up to Bruntsfield cos Ann wanted to see what new shops/restaurants were there she spotted a nice little Spanish tapas bar and then I had a play on Brunstfield Links. Can you see me rolling around in all the leaves.
We got home at about 3.40pm and had to switch all the lights on and put all the heating on. It's soooooo cold. Our weather app is telling us that it's 9C but it feels a lot colder than that.
…...............And then guess what happened?........................ Ann got a phone call from the opticians, that she is booked to see tomorrow, asking her why she'd booked an appointment early??? Ann didn't think she had. She got new glasses two years ago, but apparently she'd had an eye test on 24th January this year (but she'd forgotten that). The NHS will only allow you to have one appointment a year, so that's been cancelled now as well. At this rate we'll be heading back down to St Ives next week!!!
All in all, it's not really been a very productive day for my human. I'm happy though, because I've had two lovely walks and I'm also really happy to be back in my little bed even though I don't really fit into it (see extras). I've got a big bed too.
My human thought about phoning some friends and seeing if anyone wanted to go out to play tonight, but it's cold & dark and she's settled in for the evening now. And also, what does anyone do if they go out in the city?.......................... drink a load of wine and my human is trying to cut down. In St Ives my human might pop out for a swim beneath the Harvest Moon.
It's weird?! Whoever would have thought that life in a small seaside town, with a population of less than 11,000, would have more going on than life in the capital city of Scotland? But for my human it has. For the last 6 months she's been working at the 'Harbour Pool & Snooker Club' for 20 hours a week, she's been sea swimming 3 or 4 times a week, she's been line dancing (OK, not that much) and doing zumba 2 or 3 times a week until the teacher had probs with her knees and it's been great.
Ann has some lovely friends in Edinburgh, but all she does with them is eat & drink. She needs more than that in her life.
As for me; I'm happy if Ann is happy, because I know that I am her first priority and I know that she will always consider me when she is making plans for our future.
Anyway, that's been a mega ranty BLIP today hasn't it. Ann is going to the dentist tomorrow at 9am and I'm going for my 6 monthly check up at the vet on Tuesday, so here's hoping those appointments won't get cancelled.
Happy Sunday evening peeps. xxx
