Beachcombing

Cockling - Lytham Beach.

Awaiting the return of the boats.
As the tide recedes and the cockle banks are exposed the cocklers launch small boats (dinghy/inflatable) for the short trip across the estuary to the exposed banks. They stay there gathering cockles until the tide turns and then race the tide back to the waiting vehicles and hope they have timed it correctly. Too early and they lose out on cockles they could have gathered. Too late and the car and trailer may well be underwater.
