The Gardener

The Gardener picked up the last pot of flowers ready to take it into the house;  the Cook was also waiting for the latest box of produce including pumpkins and the few melons he had managed to grow. The pumpkins would no doubt be wasted once the children got going with carving them for Halloween ... yet another new fangled idea brought over from America by Irish immigrants.

One from my occasional series of images of my Doll's House collection.  This one brings back memories on many fronts.  The greenhouse and contents belonged to my late mother.  It should have gone to the dump as I already had too many models of my own, but when we cleared out her flat for the final time I couldn't bear to see it go, so it now sits on a shelf in my living room along with the rest.    Mum loved the resin figures as she could move them around without fear of damaging them.  As a gardener herself, though without access to a garden in her later years, she probably also enjoyed this particular model  for the memories it could conjure up.
