The Birthday Dog...
13 today...
I really should have posted a picture of him, especially as he is newly shorn with a smart haircut! Instead, we have his birthday pupcakes for the humans - pumpkin with maple frosting-delicious! We had a birthday roast for him, cooked by Little Ro at her place, and it was a lovely and relaxed Sunday afternoon.
The only downside was the baby was overtired, and although I thought he'd be awful, having resisted any suggestion of a nap this morning, and I'd have to leave, it was very manageable, and Andy even rocked him to sleep for a short catnap.
Payback came quite quickly, having returned home by 5pm in the pitch black (thank you clock change!) and the screaming then ensued....Given that he was already distressed, I decided not to bathe him, but he essentially went nuclear, screeching and clawing at my neck, whilst I held him close in the dark, silent bedroom. Eventually he stopped, and began gazing at the light coming through the glass panel at the top of the door.... I decided he needed some quiet, so I left him for a few minutes lying on the floor in the dark (with the door open) and that seemed to (temporarily) calm him.
He only went to sleep about 8pm after mum and I did what we do best- a two-man attempt, ie one of us holding the dummy in and the other rubbing his back... He napped quite peacefully until 11pm, when I scooped him up trying to gently transfer him to his Moses basket....only to discover that he was wet, and thus a nappy and clothes change ensued in the darkened room in a vain hope of keeping him somewhat asleep.
Not a great night either, but not the worst. What I can't seem to find an answer to is why when he is falling asleep his arms and legs start flailing and then wake him up, which makes him angry!
