The Last Day At Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse.
For the 2024 season.
Visitor numbers were quite high and again many questions asked by our enthusiastic visitors.
Jackie Bird, the President of the National Trust for Scotland has stated that Hill of Tarvit is her favourite Trust Property and this has certainly raised the recognition of the Mansionhouse.
Jackie has created a series of podcasts; ‘The Love Scotland Podcast’ which I commend to you all.
As can be seen from my entry photo, the weather was bright, but cold.
The extra photos show two telephones in the house, The wall mounted phone is original and is located in the servery. Handy for the butler to answer.
The second phone was a prop used in a Murder Mystery play staged in the Mansionhouse for two performances. Quite successful, I believe.
The three taps are mounted on a wooden sink. The sink was used for cleaning crystal glasses.
The two cold taps? One provided water from a source in hill above the Mansionhouse and was not particularly pleasant. The second tap provided rainwater collected from the roof.
Soda water fountains were also available.
The next time we should be at Hill of Tarvit is to attend the Volunteers Tea Party on November 4.
Pat and I drove home via St Andrews to sample ‘Fish and Chips at the ‘Tailend Restaurant’ in Market Street.
