Samhain

Did you know that Halloween started in Ireland 2000 years ago?
The ancient festival of Samhain was celebrated in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East to mark the beginning of Winter.
This year it will be observed from the evening of October 31st 2024 to the end of the day on Friday 1st November.

I immediately thought of this tiny grotto which appears every year in a garden in the village.
I first noticed it during Lockdown and now I always have a look on our walk to the pond.
I always find it difficult to photograph. The figures are so tiny and there is so much detail.
The children walking past on their way to school love it.
