Moving in
Woke at 5 30 to the sound of lots of beeping and flashing lights - and looking out there was a house across our drive. Neighbours whose house had to be demolished have decided to buy a house from the Red Zone and move it onto their section rather than rebuild. The house was moved in two parts.
By 7 30 the house was ready to be lifted into place - the family it belongs to were there, looking very tense, along with a lot of the neighbours.
Perfect day for it, still and sunny with no wind, though it was cold.
The crane lifted it once but it started to tip so down it went, lots of adjusting and then up and over the power lines and down onto the new foundations, no worries at all.
We are all very happy for them! It does everyone good to see someone being able to move on with their lives - tomorrow the work of redoing the inside of the house starts.
We were ready for some good news, unfortunately we've just had yet another hurdle put up. Although the insurance company say they want to start, we've now been told that they won't do anything until EQC finalize our land claim, which could be well into 2014. No chance now of being sorted by Christmas which is what we were told two months ago - no mention then of waiting for EQC or we'd have known nothing would be happening.
Just feel as we'll never get away from EQC - every time we think we have back they come with yet another long wait, yet another black hole with no information, yet another excuse for the insurance company to stall.
It's a very long road, so seeing someone progressing along it really does lift our spirits.
