A wide view
Another rather gloomy day, but as it wasn't actually raining mid-morning I thought I'd better walk down to the town to exercise my creaking joints. As I walked out of the door I could feel dampness in the air, but it didn't come to anything.
At the bottom of our road I crossed into Craigard Road, once a steep road, but now a footpath down to town level. As I turned in a shaft of sunlight picked out the view ahead, my Blip today. On the extreme left, the bracken covered hillside is the island of Kerrera. In front of Kerrera is the small tidal islet of Rudh-A-Chruidh with its modern house.
Behind Kerrera can be seen the Lismore lighthouse, which is actually on an islet off the end of the island of Lismore, which lies behind the tower of St Columba’s cathedral. In the far distance are the hazy hills of Morvern. Immediately to the left of the cathedral is the striped Kerrera Northspit Light, a modern version of the old Lady of Lorne lighthouse which had the wide shape of an old-fashioned dress.
In the foreground is a young Monkey Puzzle tree, the last survivor of its race in Oban, all of the mature trees having been cut down in the last few years.
I walked down to the seafront and along to the railway station where I picked up my tickets for my trip to London in ten days or so. Along to Gibraltar Street where I met a couple of fellow members of the Photo Club which ended up in a long conversation, on to Tesco to buy a paper and one or two other things, then back home the other way via Star Brae, Taylor’s Brae and Ardconnel Terrace. A drizzly afternoon - I was glad I went out earlier.
