Assembly
"Assembly by Peter Burke" is a collection of 16 male figures on the riverside at Woolwich Arsenal.
I went down there today to see if it is a good photo walk location.
Woolwich Arsenal was the site of the biggest armaments and ammunition factory in the UK. At the end of WWI the site covered over 1000 acres and employed 80,000 people. It operated from mid-Tudor times until late 20th century.
A lot of the original buildings are carefully restored and repurposed, and infilled with modern office and apartment blocks. There are cannons lying about everywhere. The transport links are superb, with the Elizabeth Line, the Docklands Light Railway, South Eastern Trains and the River Bus. It must be a great place to live if you work at Canary Wharf, City Airport, or Westfield Stratford.
It's probably a good place for photos on a warm Summer's day, but it was a bit bleak on this cold, grey Autumn day. Or I may have been influenced by having had a covid booster yesterday, a shingles and a pneumonia vaccination and a routine blood test this morning, followed by an hour with my personal trainer. I should probably just have gone back to bed.
