Bananas

When I was about seven or eight, in the very early 1960s, our class teacher left to go and live in Singapore for a few years. In her promised letter, she told us there was a banana tree growing in her garden AND that the bunches of bananas grew upside down! Two staggering facts that I never forgot!

There are banana trees all over Madeira, many in built up areas in Funchal. I still find it fascinating to see them.
