Blast
Karen cooked us a very good meal yesterday evening. However it should be noted that she can’t cook and play her accordion at the same time. Disappointing really. She headed south on the midnight ferry doon tae Eberdeen. She was travelling with Eric. They were lucky to get away, for today no boats have crossed the Firth or travelled between the isles. It’s been a tad draughty with moiling boiling restless turning churning seaweed and spray.
It was a relatively benign time between Christmas and New Year, in Hackensack, New Jersey. Glancing at his calendar Mr Van Gelder noticed it was Friday 28th December 1956. A day he would never forget. He unlocked his sound studio door to admit Kenny Burrell and a few of his pals. Rudy was a bit of a stickler, with ‘secret’ mic positions. He still divides opinion in sound circles. Twelve hours later an album had been recorded. It was released on the Prestige label. Band leader KB was happy with the day’s work. Amazingly, at the age of 93 he is still playing. I’ve played the album so many times but never checked his age until today.
I’ve completed my book about the demise of the Ottoman Empire. It was superbly researched and written. I think I may move on to Anne Applebaum.
Don’t forget – there’s only so many things you do with a trumpet.
