Heirloom

An early start and the one hour drive to the drawing course. It went well today and I liked the drawing I did.. that helps! I didn't learn anything to be fair.. but it is nice to create with others at the same time. The drive was extremely foggy and in parts the fog was pretty thick.. but the sun started to break through soon after I arrived and the journey home was glorious blue skies and stunning. Last evening our daughter went off to have supper with a friend and stayed elsewhere before her PT session early this morning, Once I arrived home and had a bite of lunch I got a very happy message to say she had finally managed to get the boat off the Thames.. I cannot explain the elation that swept over me.. I have been so concerned that the river would not go down sufficiently before the winter.. and she has been stuck for 6 weeks.. most of the time quite happily but for the past two weeks she had been at home due to running out of water and having a nearly full waste tank. Spending the winter at home with us might have done her head in!!
I have dug out the quilt my mother made me.. well, almost finished it. I think I probably helped her sew some of these diamonds onto paper when I was about 10 and she left it to me when she died.  When I opened it up I realised that I had never actually looked that closely at it. She had obviously displayed it at a patchwork exhibition as her name was pinned onto it still and I thought the pins in it were actually holding layers together but in fact they were just holding the piece onto a display sheet. So there is a lot of work to do.  I don't want this blue chintz material as the topper so I need to buy new fabric to lay the patchwork on once I have removed all the basting and the paper inside each piece!  My daughter is very excited to help so actually she has spurred me on to do it. She said she would come with me to a fabric shop to choose a new top piece and backing for it which would be lovely and then we can get going with attaching it properly.  I do absolutely love it.. what a labour of love.. I think Mum (who died over 22 years ago) would be absolutely thrilled that I am working on it with her granddaughter and I am absolutely looking forward to having it on our bed!!
Hoping to dodge the naughty little villagers trick or treating tonight
Squash risotto for supper.
