Serengeti Lightfields

It’s been a busy Friday… my car needed its MOT, new tyres and brake discs, so V and I dropped it off at the garage before work; I had a long shift today, which did not finish until after six in the evening. The good news—fantastic news, in fact—is that I have an unexpected week off! I am usually pretty bad at remembering to book annual leave… so my HR manager gives me the odd week here and there when I forget. This time, I hadn’t realised she’d done that until today when I checked the rota for next week. It feels like Christmas… I had to keep looking at the screen to make sure it was true. After work, I got a lift back to the garage to collect my car and headed home.

Today’s blip results from experimentation with a new piece of lighting gear: a 60x60cm lightpad by Pixapro, designed to give shadowless underlighting for product photography. I think it also has much potential for still-life and macro photography, so I’ve added it to my setup. I took this shot on the lightpad’s first test, having roped in a familiar subject to be the guinea pig. I was not planning to use this particular image, but something about the white glow from beneath and the complementary white areas in the sky made the composition work.
