Perfect . . .

. . . for a train journey.

Just as we were about to set off for the station, a package dropped through the letterbox. Carefully wrapped, and with a lovely thank you note, this was my Ali Smith just-published book sent from the Portobello Bookshop.

Of course I had no choice - it dropped itself into my bag and away we went.

I love Ali Smith. I’ve read all her books and have been waiting for this one. A brilliant writer. Although you are not always sure what you are reading, you just trust her and it all comes out right in the end. So witty, and often seriously funny, but she cares about people and humanity in general. She has a way with words that is unique to her, sometimes you read a phrase and think - how did she do that?

So now, in our hotel room, Gordon has the Rugby . . . and I have my book!
