A Day Worth Recording

Following a friend's recommendation we decided to explore the Long Mynd - a system of hills north of Ludlow that we'd never explored before.  We parked at Church Stretton and walked up and round in a circular route.  The area around the car park was rather full of squeaky kids and flipfloppers but it wasn't long before we had large swathes of hill side moorland to ourselves, barring the occasional pack of cyclists.

We were glad of the layer of cloud providing some shade from the searing sun of the previous day.  There was certainly no other source of shade, these hills being as devoid of trees as home is of gradients.

Somewhat unexpectedly, we came across this small herd of (semi?) wild horses at this equally unexpected watering hole.  For miles around it was very very dry.

On our return to Church Stretton we found a lovely little cafe, "Berry's", that served us a very welcome (if diet-hostile) cream tea.  It was a struggle to fit all the clotted cream and jam onto two scones but we succeeded.

Jam on top, of course.

I would link to Berry's website but it's awfully coded (guys, it really doesn't warrant java plug-in downloads), so, for info, it's address is 17 High Street, SY6 6BU.
