today I completed the mammoth job of sawing up all the trunks from the beech hedge, which have been littering the garden for months. Totally exhausting and in temperatures that were starting to soar again. But what's a man for, if he can't saw up logs? Mind you, our missionary neighbour offered me the loan of his electric model, much to Alice's alarm (she has no faith in my ability to avoid disaster), but I didn't use it for long, wanting to keep all my limbs as far as possible.
