Mother and baby.

We went to the lake this afternoon to see if there were any baby coots. When we got there the nest was empty, and falling apart. There was no sign of any coots.
We walked right around the lake, and eventually found this little one and what we thought would be it's mother, but is it the one from the nest, or is it another?
It is a week since we saw the mother still sitting on the nest, with no sign of any young.
I think this one looks big enough to survive. I hope the canada geese leave it alone.
