Gaining an hour, losing the light

The clocks turned back an hour last night, but Fletch woke at his ' usual' time. 

I really hate losing that hour of light and it has been an overcast dark day so it was even darker. 
I really don't see why we still need to do this. I think it was started over a 100 years ago in 1916 to save energy because so many people started work at 7:30 am and for a while it was lighter going to work and places of work didn't need to use energy to light the buildings
 But nowadays it would be more important to keep that extra hour at the end of the day .. People work different hours,  and it would be much safer for children coming out of school as theyre not coming home in the dark
