Family Traditions

My Blip yesterday was of the front of Barkers of Northallerton a family run department store with its origins back to 1882 and is still a family run store.

Behind Barkers is Applegarth a park area with a large car park and the winter quarters of the Crow family travelling funfair rides. The Crows have run fair grounds for over 165 years and have other interests in and around Northallerton. 

Fairs and markets have been a key part of the history of Northallerton going back 800 years. Apart from the twice weekly market there are a number of occasions during the year when the whole high street is closed and filled with funfair attractions supplied by the Crow family.
