All Souls Day - Day Of The Dead
My grandmother and my parents must have been turning in their graves.
I guessed that my errant nephew might be going to cause trouble so went to the family nursery and parked my van across the entrance. My sister arrived and put her car on the driveway too. He turned up with a couple of friends and told us to move. We refused. In a rage he left and said he was going to come back with 'crew' and move our vehicles. My sister called the police. He returned with a convoy of vehicles and lots of people. They forcibly pushed my van to one side and one of their cars tried to force its way through the gap but my sister and I stood in front of it. My nephew cut the new lock and chain that I had recently bought for the gate with a fancy pair of bolt croppers which were then passed back through the crowd.
The police arrived. I'm pleased to say that the policing was much more balanced this time. A policeman asked me if my front tyre usually looked like that. I thought maybe there was a fault with it that he was going to book me for. It was flat as a pancake. A policewoman had noticed it. Someone had stuck a twig in the valve to make it deflate slowly. I nearly cried at that point but held myself together.
Errant nephew was arrested and the police issued a dispersal order. My sister and the police pumped up my tyre with a pump that she keeps in her car.
I was very worried about leaving Mish and MrQ for so long but they were fine when I got home in time to give Mish her dinner a bit late and to make MrQ's and serve it on the dot.
