Again and Again

Wild horses

I titled one of my blips 79 last week for the building number.  Today I had a short drive from Newmarket to Mildenhall today for my 79th diffent parkrun location.

Several stops on route to allow groups of  horses to cross the road but otherwise an easy drive.
I parked in a carpark that was not the main one and walked toward the start to find a random assortment of people including 2 dressed as lifeguards. It took me a few moments  to realise that they were not, like me,  early arrivals to parkrun,.waiting fancy dress but people who had been evacuated from the building due to a fire alarm.

Although I did still have time to get to my plan B event I was told by the parkrun team that it was a false alarm and that the event would go ahead
I decided to stay put and enjoyed chatting with various people until the start.   The course was a 3 lap mixture of tracks and tarmac, including an out and back section where faster parkrunners were running towards you which I always enjoy.  All very pleasing albeit that I couldn't hang around afterwards for more chatting.  I was back at the hotel by 10.15 and 45 minutes later we headed to the races.

Steve and Kay had gone ahead and bagged us a table in one of the member bars and we spent the day moving between there and other parts of the racecourse.  We watched the second race from seats in a stand and before it started one of the jockeys was thrown and their horse made its way down to the finish where it was a little spooked by the crowds before Stewards managed to bring it safely to a stop and lead it back to the stables.

I didnt win any bets but enjoyed a good bit of people and horse watching.

We went to a pub in the high street which was playing a distinctly  Irish soundtrack before heading to an Italian restaurant.  An enjoyable evening and an early ish bedtime. Lovely
