If you build it...
This is the paper plane launcher that Eben tried to build some months ago (I remember blipping about it at the time). It didn't come together well and he ended up hurling it to one side, tearful with frustration. It was a complex and fiddly design, made of heavy cardboard.
I didn't recycle it, as I thought that he might eventually like to try again. Like Josh, he likes solving practical problems. This afternoon he found it in the spare bedroom, gathering dust on the table. Without any intervention from me or Richard, he brought it downstairs and painstakingly picked it apart. 'I made a mistake', he commented, 'and I can see where.' It's rare for Eben to admit to making a mistake, so this was good to hear. This time he briefly hit a wall of frustration again, but he got over it and got the model working. He was delighted.
And so were we. Definitely proud Nana and Richard moment.
It's not the sharpest of photos, as I'd widened the aperture and slowed down the shutter speed to capture as much light as possible in the late afternoon gloom. Good memory though.
