Sunday Sandwich
My Sunday morning ritual of brew in bed with Blip is one that I hold dear and for me personally, is a really nice way to start the day.
Keeping this in mind as I turned off the TV this evening having binged on football, Agatha All Along and Shrinking, I thought I would try finishing the day in the same way, with the only difference being a decapitated (sic) brew at this late hour.
It’s also a nice time to reflect on the past nine days, with the absence of work replaced with a focus on the wee ones and making sure that they have a fun half term full of adventure and new experiences. I’ve already done the “I haves”, so I won’t repeat those here.
The last two days have been solely for me in recovering from the previous seven - I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t know how full time single parents do it! - so I’ve rewarded myself by going back to what I love with a largely theatre-based weekend (with a light sprinkling of tree culling thrown in), soaking up two very different, but enjoyable shows and taking inspiration from them into today’s rehearsal.
A lot of the Panto cast were involved in these other shows and have been absent from recent rehearsals, so it was great to have them all back together today to talk about their efforts and let them know how good the shows were.
The creative arts get a bad rap sometimes. From the amateurs to the seasoned professionals (remember those “re-training” ads during the pandemic?), none of us are saving any lives, we (speaking as a very amateur here) know that. But man, it feels good to be a part of something bigger than yourself. To come together and create something that even just for a short time may provide even just one person with a little light relief or a couple of hours of escapism, is a really good thing.
It’s certainly done wonders for me this weekend!
Props (geddit?) to all those - especially the amateurs - who give up their spare time* in any capacity to help create something fun and/or enjoyable for others and do not ask for anything in return.
Don’t stop.
*such as our wardrobe mistress who has made me another masterpiece of which you are being given the sneakiest of peeks here.
