New Yorkers and their dogs
Today we intended to visit the Guggenheim art gallery on 5th Avenue on the edge of Central Park but unfortunately the New York Marathon was going along 5th Avenue and we couldn't get across it. There were lots of spectators too, many of them cheering on their friends. I don't know for sure but I think the dog in my main belongs to a spectator.
Needing a plan B we went down to the southern end of Manhattan Island to the Ground Zero 9/11 Memorial Park. Fountains have been built in the footprints of the two destroyed buildings (3rd extra). The names of people who died are inscribed around the edges.
My second extra shows One World Trade Centre. It is the tallest building in America but at the rate at which developers are trying to out-tall each other it might not be for long. The whole area is dominated by glassy skyscrapers that obscure the buildings that previously gave New York its character. My first extra shows how the Empire State Building can merely be glimpsed from the south.
We're off to Boston tomorrow for a few days. Can't wait! Have a great start to the week.
