National Library of Australia

When I was a librarian and later a trainer of librarians, national libraries enjoyed considerable status as the leaders and standard setters of the profession. Students' professional development could hardly be complete without a visit to a national library - the NLA, the British Museum Library, the Library of Congress. That was a very long time ago and I doubt if it is true today but I still feel a frisson of excitement when I see the NLA.
