A little bit early …
Like many other parts of the country, fireworks have been let off early on the beach in Musselburgh by probably some youths who don’t have any inkling about history.
As educated people will know, the traditional night fireworks should be let off (if at all) is Guy Fawkes night (which is tomorrow), signifying the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 to blow up the English Parliament in London.
Alas, this is lost on many, who think it is a laugh to set them off, scaring others including vulnerable people and pets.
We are lucky in tgst our two old ladies are pretty much deaf (and we have a feliway), so don’t get much bothered, however, it must be awful for many pet owners who have terrified dogs and cats.
On balance, I think I am in favour of fireworks being banned now, and if not, only allowed to be sold by shops to over 21s and on the 5th of November only.
I have heard that Classic FM have a playlist that helps keep animals calm.
Fingers crossed to tomorrow goes calmly and without incident especially for our emergency services.
