War horse

Here's the latest postbox topper in Chobham commemorating the fallen in two World Wars as we approach Remembrance Sunday.  I think the juxtaposition with the life-size model of a horse outside the riding shop is particularly apt given War Horse by Michael Morpugo is one of the most moving and accessible accounts of the cruelty, and humanity, of war. I thought the original play was better than the film, even with the latter being directed by Steven Spielberg. A powerful story, however, in whatever way it is told. What is so depressing is that despite remembering the human cost of war at these annual ceremonies, it goes on and on....
