Alaskan Vodka

When I learned that a woman was distilling spirits only a few miles from where we live, I envisioned a stealthy person operating a still that was hidden away in the deep forest, kind of like the old moonshiners. Well, the owner of High Mark Distillery does make Blind Cat Moonshine, Applejack, and Vodka, but she is a former elementary school teacher who started and runs a high quality commercial distillery. It is in the forest, but not hidden!

Our Rotary visited the High Mark Distillery, where the owner gave a lively presentation about how she had an idea and followed it through to fruition. She provided a generous tasting of the products, and all were excellent. In only 7 months of operation, she already sells to most local liquor stores and many bars and has just secured contracts with large stores statewide. News of superb quality travels fast!

The term "High Mark" refers to highmarkinga favorite activity of snowmachiners who compete to see who can go the highest up a steep mountainside.
